Therapeutical approach
My approach is primarily underpinned by existential psychotherapy, which seeks to understand what it means to be human and live authentically
Self-understanding and empowerment
A closely attuned, emotion-regulated human connection is central to the therapeutic relationship. I practice close, existential listening, focusing on what it means to live in one’s own skin, moment to moment, in relation to others and the world from my client’s perspective.
Being present during the unfolding of a client’s narrative creates a space for trust and safety. My clients know they are truly heard and understood in all their emotional sensitivity. This empathetic engagement, some call it phenomenology, allows my clients to explore their feelings without judgment, fears, or aversions, enabling them to navigate their emotions freely.
My approach is primarily underpinned by existential psychotherapy, which seeks to understand what it means to be human and live authentically. Existential therapy encourages clients to look inside themselves to discover meaning, locate their values and beliefs, and identify what matters to them. This exploration often leads to greater self-understanding and empowerment, especially for those feeling existentially lost.
Freedom and responsibility are central themes in my work. I recognise that our inherent freedom throws us into the necessity to choose and that appreciating the responsibility for our choices is crucial for fulfilling our essential self. Grasping this can lead to profound personal growth and authenticity.
Richer lives and relationships
I integrate the core concepts of existential psychotherapy with traditional psychological therapeutic modalities to create a space for being, where increased self-awareness and self-understanding can evolve. My aim is to work with all my individual clients as well as couples to build a relationship based on deep listening, to foster richer, more meaningful lives and relationships.
In couples therapy, I work with the intricate dynamics between partners and their understanding of the meaning-making and attachment styles of each other. My goal is to be present as partners reconnect, establish healthy communication, resolve conflicts, and celebrate their relationship, as they come to understand and appreciate what meanings are being made between them.
